Mojisola Kareem
Mojisola Kareem is an award-winning Director and the Founder of Utopia Theatre, a prominent African theatre company based in Sheffield. As an inspirational creative storyteller and theatre maker, Mojisola’s recent projects include a captivating adaptation of the beloved storybook "Anna Hibiscus’ Song" and the community-driven production "All Our Goals."
Under Mojisola's leadership, Utopia Theatre has been recognised as a National Portfolio Organisation by Arts Council England. Her vision has led to the establishment of a Youth Academy and a Creative Hub, aimed at empowering African communities, supporting emerging artists, and inspiring the next generation of creatives. Since 2016, Utopia Theatre has maintained a residency at Sheffield Theatres, collaborating closely with the organisation.
Mojisola's impressive background includes serving as Staff Director at The National Theatre, receiving a 2017 Opera Awards Foundation bursary, and being a founding member of the Mosaic Opera Collective. She has also worked as a visiting director at London South Bank University, British American Drama Academy and East 15 Acting School.
Mojisola is well-known for commissioning new writing and presenting classic works within a strong African context, challenging stereotypes and promoting authentic voices from the African diaspora.
