Barber Evening Concert/Vice-Chancellor’s Farewell Concert
Friday 26 November, 7.30pm
In this specially commissioned performance, six outstanding Chineke! Orchestra musicians present the music of Florence B Price, Schoenberg, and Brahms. This performance marks the retirement of the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir David Eastwood, and the programme includes perhaps some of the greatest string sextets in the repertoire.
The concert is preceded by an ‘in conversation’ panel discussion which includes Professor Eastwood, Dr Annie Mahtani, Head of Music, sound artist and composer, and Chi-chi Nwanoku, founder of the Chineke! Foundation, and Europe’s first majority Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) orchestra, Chineke! The session will focus on the issues of diversity, equality and inclusion in classical music.
