Chineke! Orchestra's inaugural European Tour
Chineke! Orchestra is embarking on its inaugural European tour this November, beginning with an opening concert at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and leading to venues in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
With conductor Kevin John Edusei and violinist Elena Urioste, Chineke! will perform a programme of rich Romantic works by Weber, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Brahms.
Weber: Overture, Oberon
Coleridge-Taylor: Violin Concerto in G minor, Op.80
Brahms: Symphony No.2
In light of current political tensions arising from the UK’s proposed departure from the European Union, Chineke! founder Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE said:
“As Europe’s first majority Black Minority Ethnic orchestra, our European tour feels like an important moment to reinforce the ties of friendship with our EU neighbours. Music can be a powerful tool for diplomacy, reminding us of our shared interests and Chineke! embodies the idea of unity in diversity.”
