Organised as part of the global Earth Day celebrations, this special concert saw the local East London community come together along with audiences of BBC Radio 3 and European Broadcasting Union radio stations across Europe and beyond. The concert aimed to showcase how through music, we can celebrate the natural world around us, and reminded us of the need to protect our planet.
Max Richter says: “Creative work can be about building and activating communities, and the climate emergency presents us with a challenge we can only overcome by collective action across political and social divisions. Music offers us ways to encounter other minds and to experience other points of view in very direct ways, and we will need this kind of collective understanding if we are to meet the existential questions which face us. Recomposed, with its origins in the natural rhythms of the Seasons that frame our lives, reminds us that the things we are fighting for are beyond opinions and political ideologies: they form the very basis of our existence. We belong to them, and they belong to us all equally.”
