Chineke! Junior Nimat Awoyemi wins scholarship to RWCMD
We are thrilled to report that Chineke! Junior Orchestra violist Nimat Awoyemi has won a scholarship to study for a MMus at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
21-year old Nimat’s journey through music is an inspiring one, which she shares in the following blog post.
Starting a music career as a shy 7-year-old girl, I lacked confidence in myself and my ability - I really wanted to quit a few months in but my mother told me to keep going! Since changing instruments from the violin to the viola, I have opened myself up to so many opportunities, developing both my technique as well as my character as an individual. From performing at various concert halls across the UK, to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland under Marin Alsop, these past 14 years of music-making have been incredible!
I am currently an Orchestral Scholar in my final year of the BMus Music degree with honours at Royal Holloway, University of London and had joined the Chineke! Junior Orchestra during my first year of study. Being a member is helping me to expand my musical knowledge and become an even better performer; the expertise I have gained from our rehearsals, concerts and recordings has helped shape my understanding of the music industry. Now at 21 years old, I am extremely proud to say that I am furthering my musical study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying MMus Music Performance with a scholarship! It has taken a lot of will power to get to where I am today; at times, I had been my worst enemy and would subconsciously bring myself down, but receiving constant support from my peers and loved ones inspired me to keep going! I have learned to believe in myself, and with this mindset, I have achieved and will continue to achieve great things!
