Together in Sound with NMC Recordings and Waltham Forest
Chineke!’s Learning & Participation programme has completed a brilliant project to enable students to develop their musical ideas - from composition right through to production!
In a Chineke! partnership with NMC Recordings and Waltham Forest Music Education Hub called Together in Sound, students worked on different compositional techniques, group exercises and improvisation during weekly workshops in October with Chineke! musicians and composer James B. Wilson. They were also taught how to release their music digitally, write programme notes and create album art.
The six new works were premiered at Leyton Great Hall this month in a celebratory sharing concert, hosted by percussionist and music leader Rosie Bergonzi.
This project has been made possible by funding from the London Music Fund Partnership Programme, supported by The Karlsson Játiva Charitable Foundation, through the Signatur programme for the advancement of the art of music. The London Music Fund’s mission is to transform under-served communities by enabling children to access high-quality music education, nurturing and developing the talent of every young musician in London. Its Partnership Programme supports ambitious, inspirational projects across London, enabling young musicians to learn from, and perform alongside, top professional musicians in iconic venues.
